At the annual Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists for the G20 countries (MACS-G20), Dr. Lal addressed attendees with a lecture entitled Global Environmental and Food Security: Importance of Agriculture focused on the intersection of science, war, and the health of our planet: “Global peace is also a matter of science.” War-torn lands and their soils suffer silently, but they pass on the suffering to subsequent generations as they become polluted, contaminated, cratered, and compacted.
At MACS-G20, the tour of the Cerrado Center, officially known as the Institute of Permaculture and Ecovillage of the Cerrado, hosted by Director General Silvia Massruhá and many members of the Cerrado Center (pictured above right) was an “experience of a lifetime,” according to Dr. Lal. Dr. Lal greatly enjoyed meeting with his esteemed colleagues addressing these urgent issues globally, including Chavonda Jacobs-Young (pictured left), Undersecretary of Agriculture for Research, Education, and Economics at the USDA, at this event coordinated by Embrapa.
