Article by Dr. Yuri Lopes Zinn (PhD '05)
In June, the Lal Carbon Center received a visit by Dr. Yuri Lopes Zinn, co-sponsored by CFAES and the Center for Latin American Studies. Dr. Zinn completed his Ph.D. under Dr. Lal in 2005, and since 2009 is at the Faculty of the Federal University of Lavras, Brazil. Dr. Zinn visited Kottmann Hall and Waterman Farm on June 22nd, and presented a seminar on the 23rd, after which he visited the Ohio Internship Program at CFAES. Finally, on the 23rd, Dr. Zinn attended a lunch meeting on the Faculty Club, and visited the Oval and Main Library, hosted by the Head of the Center for Latin American Studies.

d...I got lost many times! I was also excited to finally visit Waterman and Dr. Lal´s experiments, since in my Ph.D., I brought samples from Brazil and had little time to see Ohio soils. Giving a seminar at Kottman Hall after all these years was also special, not only for the presence of so many students, but also by Dr. Cañas, the folks from TOP and the Latin American Center, but also my old friend Dr. Klaus Lorenz and his family. And of course, I´ve never dreamt of entering, much less having a meal at the Faculty Club. Finally, this might sound cliché, but I did not know I had so much emotional attachment to OSU, CFAES and Columbus. I want to visit again in the near future, this time with my daughter, so she can have a taste of OSU too.
